Test the page that is hardest to read
Choose a page containing your smallest table labels, longest equation or densest notes. Inspect it at physical size, ideally with an actual-size proof where precision matters. A comfortable chapter title does not establish that the footnotes are usable.
If the pack needs annotation, check the space left after reduction. A smaller book that needs a second notebook may not be the simplest study setup.

Understand what reduction changes
A-series sizes preserve their shape when reduced, but the linear dimensions shrink. An A4-to-A5 reduction is about 71% in each direction. As an illustration, 12-point text becomes roughly 8.5-point at that scale. This explains why a perfectly sharp PDF can still become uncomfortable to read.
Reformatting the source for A5 can work better than shrinking every page, but it changes pagination. Inspect references, page breaks and diagrams after export.
Compare the same content
Illustrative quantity: a 40-page A4 PDF printed once contains 40 content faces. If you select A5 output with one PDF page per face, it still contains 40 faces. Placing two A4 content pages on an A4 sheet is a different layout choice and should not be confused with ordering an A5 document.
Review the preview and live quotation for the configuration you intend. Do not assume the smaller size is cheaper after minimums, finishing or delivery.
Choose by study setting
A short vocabulary summary carried between lectures may suit a compact format. A research reading pack with wide tables may not. For a Dubai student commuting to campus, portability matters, but so do legibility and how the finished pack opens. Choose a format before ordering binding and confirm any capacity requirements separately.
